Scholarship

The Emilie Wheelock Howson/Mohrmann Scholarship was established in 2008 to honor Emilie Wheelock Howson, a distinguished Austin Woman’s Club benefactor. For eighteen years, forty-two female University of Texas at Austin students — who were graduates of a Texas high school and pursuing a degree in historical architecture or historical preservation — received important financial assistance from the Austin Woman’s Club. 

Beginning in 2026, AWC is formally recognizing the close relationship between Chateau Bellevue’s former owner, Major Ira Hobart Evans, and Huston-Tillotson University. Major Evans was a founder of Tillotson College, founded in 1875 and later merged into Huston-Tillotson College in 1952.

The endowment fund held at Austin Community Foundation now supports, on a biennial basis:

• Austin Woman’s Club Ira Hobart Evans Non-Endowed Biennial Scholarship at Huston-Tillotson University.
  
• A grant to The University of Texas at Austin Historic Architecture Department.
